janie and jack sale

I used to shop Janie and Jack all the time! It was by far my favorite kids clothing store before N grew into crewcuts. When I found out we were having a girl last December, my first purchase was a sweet little J&J shirt. I don't shop there quite as much, but I love their summer style. Their big end of season sale is here, and here are a few of my picks:

More Sales...

Goodness this is a good week for sales! If you haven't shopped the Saks sale, things are selling out. I picked up a few more items for KC (thanks to my mom) but I keep eyeing a pair of loafers for N. My picks from the sale are here. My order will be here Thursday! If only KC would be here too.

Today is the last day to take 20% off Tea orders. My boys love their Tea items. Especially T, he will wear comfy pants/shorts daily so Tea shorts are a must. He's also picky about his shirts and this fish shirt is his favorite.
N loves his bike shirt (and T is in an old Tea shirt here).
I also have this for KC when she arrives:
Some of my other Tea favorites can be found here. Use the code FRIENDS20 (free shipping on orders over $150).

KC received her first present last week and it was an awesome box full of Honest products from her auntie! The diapers are adorable. I noticed that BuyBuyBaby will ship them free until 5/6. (Along with other Honest products - we can't wait to try the bubble bath that came in our box).

N's gingham shirt from Easter is on sale at Gap. It's $18.99 and it seems they always offer some type of deal with it (try TREAT). It's even cheaper in pink.
His rugby striped T is also on sale for 9.99 (and in lots of colors).

I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday! We are excited to get a broken tub, shower, and sink fixed (and possibly a leaky toilet) all thanks to my parents. We are definitely in crunch time for preparing  for life with a newborn. Sometimes I feel like there is still so much to do that I'm dizzy. Whatever gets done it will all work out I'm sure, really newborns only need a few things (although it would make it a lot easier on me to have everything checked off my list).

Saks Sale

Happy Easter Monday (or happy Monday if it's not Easter Monday for you)! I hope you had a great weekend - I'll update tomorrow with our weekend activities (wet, sunny, cold, warm - we touched on just about every type of weather and it didn't stop us one bit).

Saks Fifth Avenue is having their Friends and Family Sale, 25% off and they always have free shipping (codes, FRNFAM and FREESHIP). I tried to collect some of my favorites (that didn't break the bank). I haven't hit submit quite yet. Here are a few of my favorites for toddler girls and boys:

Saks Sale

My cart has a few baby girl items as well (seriously Kissy Kissy and Lilly on sale at the same time, makes decision making too hard).

Have you shopped the sale? Found anything great? I've only looked at kid items so I may need to branch out to items for me (and a huge paint mishap has Chris needing a new pair of jeans).

Easter Styles

Happy Monday! Did everyone have a good weekend? Ours was sports and sunshine filled, which was perfect. I'll be back tomorrow with the usual "Weekend Review" (I was really lazy about uploading pictures and I took none with my phone - which uploads automatically).

Today I thought I share some of my favorite Easter styles. Easter just seems perfect for seersucker, bright colors (hello Lilly Pulitzer and Vineyard Vines), and sandals. My boys tend to wear polos or button-downs with shorts and maybe a jacket.
last Easter, decked out in Vineyard Vines (love the club shorts and pullovers)

Our church service is casual so one outfit usually works for the entire day. I also picked my favorite girl styles (and KC may already have one of these dresses hanging in her closet).
Easter Styles

What will your kiddos be wearing? Do you keep the "Easter Bonnet" tradition alive? Hopefully with Easter being later in the season the weather will be warmer and sleeveless dresses and shorts will be very welcome!

My Favorite Boys Spring Outfit

Happy First Day of April! Hope you don't get any April Fool's Day pranks pulled on you :)

This might be the outfit N wears all spring and summer long. I love the look and it happened a little by accident. Who says boy clothes aren't fun!
The shirt is GapKids (link here). It's $14.95 but it seems Gap always has a sale (it was 40% off when I purchased). The shorts are Vineyard Vines, last seasons sale (similar here - love the new colors), and I have them in a mint green color too.
N can still fit into his Sperry's from last year, but I also purchased a pair of Target flip flops for him.
We have family pictures coming up this weekend and I need to come up with outfits! I'm so behind on everything these days. I'm debating if N will wear this or a button down and khakis. And who knows what I'll get T into - or even myself! I'm quite limited by my size these days. Here's hoping we don't need a wide angle lens!

Friday Finds

Did you have a great first day of spring?! The weather was perfect here. N had a fundraiser at school that was an hour of running to music and through inflatable arches, so I'd say he had a good day. T had preschool and then we stayed on the playground for two hours after, he even made sand angels in the sandbox, so I'll call that a win for him. I picked up these beauties and ran into a friend:
So I'll call it a win for me and KC as well.
(Unfortunately Chris was in the office all day and night, so maybe not a great start to spring for him, although I did wake up to have breakfast with him at 6am.)

I'm actually kind of silly excited about these Friday Finds:

First up: I read this post by Blue Eyed Bride and really loved the idea behind it. I decided to try it as I am very guilty of rushing through bedtime to get to the quiet time for myself after a hectic day. My boys have been sleeping until I wake them at 8am since daylight savings time, so I set my alarm for 6:30 the first day. I was up, reading a devotion and within 10 minutes T opened the door to come sit. 15 minutes later N joined us. By our usual wake up time we'd finished a puzzle, had breakfast, made lunches, and practiced piano - not to mention we were all dressed and ready for the day. The next day I set my alarm for 6am, within 10 minutes again both boys were with me. And once again we had library books read, piano practice finished, breakfast, made lunches, even had a little tiny tots basketball game. So while I didn't get any more "me" time, I did get quality time. (And I'm sure my kids must now have some monitoring device for my sleeping habits.)

Second: Have you seen Tea's new arrivals? I'm usually not such a HUGE Tea fanatic (I mean I always like them) but goodness they have drawn me in again. Here are some highlights:
(Tea is perfect for my skinny guys - even the elastic waist shorts work on N)

The first dress is a maxi (but only in bigger sizes, it's regular length in smaller sizes). It's gorgeous! And the baby versions of the rest of these dresses with a diaper cover are crazy cute.

These are baby girl items but they have the prints in dresses in big girls as well. I love Tea bubbles for babies, they are so soft. If the dress on the right came in 0-3 months, little KC would be wearing it to a wedding we are going to in July. It's stunning!

This idea from Vogue Australia (I think) with what looks like fabric covered balloons would be so cute at a birthday party or baby shower!

The warmer weather has me looking for awesome summer activities, and well how cool does this look:
It's a Water Blob from Homemade Toast (instructions here). It looks like so much fun and I can only imagine all the games that could be played on it.

Super happy weekend everyone! Any fun plans? We have soccer practice and a t-ball game before visiting family for dinner. We had planned to paint the nursery, but I think it will have to wait a couple weeks. Nothing like waiting till the last minute!

Old Navy Girl's Spring and 20% Off!

Happy Spring! I feel like I've waited for this day since the end of summer 2013 - now bring on the warm weather and Easter decorations!
Crewcuts just released their new spring arrivals with a sale, but I'll admit I was a little underwhelmed. Old Navy on the other hand, is totally getting my spring style. If this little lady was a little older, this is what she'd be getting (us ONSAVENOW for 20% off through tonight):

I do feel a little guilty loving the girl items and not loving the boys, hopefully something great will spring up for them soon (they are getting a few Gap basics, but I'm ready for some cute family photo worthy items).

I hope everyone has a great Thursday! Thanks for the advice on T's new shoes!

Birthday Shoes, Help Me Out Please!

T has apparently decided that Grandma's number is a hotline for requesting birthday presents. Each time he talks to her, he gives a long list of items he would like. Please tell me where I can find a remote controlled robot! He doesn't ask for much but this one is from left field.

I'm pretty proud of the fact I've convinced the kids that necessities make great gifts (bookbags, lunchboxes, shoes) however I feel slightly at risk of creating sneaker heads because they light up at the suggestion of new shoes. I won't lie, I love picking new shoes for them as well.

Chris and I are divided on which to purchase for T this birthday. I usually pick their favorite colors. T loves dark blue, red, and orange.  Here's what I'm deciding between:

or in blue
(The laces may drive me insane, but darn they are cute)

(Chris' choice, because they are UT colors)

T currently wears these, which he received for Christmas. While they are cute and easy to wear, they are looking rough after almost daily wear.

Which do you think? (and what will I do when I have to pick girl shoes too!?)

Also, did you see Birkenstocks are on crewcuts sites? I don't know if I can handle them coming back. What do you think? I do love the look of these (they remind me of Teva's, which crewcuts also carries, in a style slightly different from my youth).

Top Layers

Phew! Tuesday just snuck by! For some reason the Tuesday after "springing forward" always gets to me. I'm sure having a late t-ball practice and then watching Catching Fire, in addition to forgetting to set my alarm had a little something to do with it as well. Luckily, no one was late for school.

The weather has been amazing recently. Although the 30 degree temperature swings have made me want to stock up on some layering pieces. Right now the boys use their Hanna striped hoodies and their Vineyard Vine half zips, but it would be nice to add a few items to the rotation.

Top Layers
Cardigan, Shep Shirt, French Terry Jacket, Quilted Jacket
Stripe Waffle Hoodie, Mariner Zip Hoodie, Half Zip Hoodie

There are so many cute options for girls. Whether a cardigan, a pullover or a jacket there are options to match all different styles. I also like the idea of a jean jacket as well (I tend to sport one in the spring often, maybe too often).

For some reason I'm a huge pullover fan for boys. I'm not sure why I like them (and they seem a little less practical than full zip ups) but I always have. I also like rolling the sleeves on a button down shirt for days when it will warm up but a little extra sleeve is needed in the cooler morning.

Do you have any favorite items you layer for your kiddos? I'm always looking for new options!

What to Wear for Spring Training

Yesterday my big guy was out of school with a bad headache (his second day of a headache) so not much was done around here (and I'm catching up on my blog reading this morning). He's feeling better and is back at school and hopefully headaches will stay far far away from him from now on.

The boys are starting their spring sports this weekend! It is back to Saturday morning games for us, although this time we'll be juggling two games. We did a little shopping this weekend for new cleats and other gear and I put together a list of my favorite athletic wear.

I'm going to go ahead and apologize for all the pink in the girls section. For some reason I'm drawn to it (and my boys wear pink, so it's not like it's been missing from my life). I do love the looks though - and would gladly wear them if they were available in my size!
Nike Tempo Shorts, Old Navy Active zip top , Under Armour VNeck, Navy Nike Tempo Shorts, Old Navy Active Tee, Pumas (toddler version), Saucony Shoes

I had a hard time shopping for my boys. We are lucky in that we receive a lot of athletic hand-me-downs, but there were a few items they needed and it took awhile to hunt down something we liked. The blue Nike's are only available in size 2 and are on super sale, but I've been eyeing them since Christmas.

Old Navy Zip Up, Gap Grey Shorts, Adidas Pants, Nike Shirt, Blue Adidas Pants, Blue Toddler Nike Tee, Adidas Shoe, Nike Shoe

Is anyone else gearing up for spring sports? I'm excited for the boys to play and have fun, not so excited about losing our fun laid back Saturday mornings.

The Preschool Play Dough Secret & VV sale

When N started preschool, I learned the secret to play dough: like so many other things, homemade is crazy better than store bought. Our preschool classes have a family sign up to bring in a new batch of playdough each month, and now I make it for us at home every few months as well. This last time, T helped me make it, and then played for 4 HOURS! He does have a super long attention span, but 4 hours was more than I ever expected. I have a few different recipes but I included my favorite at the bottom.

We made his favorite color. He decided it was "pool blue" and not "ocean blue". He likes to be exact. It comes out looking slimy and goopy, but kneading it for a couple minutes (once it's cool) makes it the perfect consistency.

We have quite a few different things we use with our play dough. A container of dinosaurs is the most popular, but we also have plastic cookie cutters (you can get a tub of 100 at Bed Bath and Beyond for like $10), stamps, and these tools (they were in T's Christmas stocking).
We also gave the dinosaurs a bath a few times. It would probably be a good idea to do this each time so the playdough doesn't dry in their mouths and around their feet.
Playdough is also great for working on letters and spelling. My first graders used to use it for their high frequency words.
To keep our playdough extra clean, the boys have to wash hands before they play and I always clean the table. It will last us quite a few months (we keep it in a gallon ziplock bag).

Here's our favorite recipe:
Play dough:
2 cups flour (I buy the cheapie flour instead of using our good flour)
2 cups water
1 cup salt
2 TBSP cream of tartar
2 TBSP oil
any color food coloring (and glitter if you want)

Mix all ingredients over low heat in a saucepan stirring constantly until it starts to fall from the sides of the pan. Remove from pan and place on foil to let cool. Knead until playdough has a consistency you like. (Your pan will look like it may never come clean, but once playdough cools it's super easy to wash up).

Also Vineyard Vines is offering 30% off sale items this weekend with the code SPRING14.
I love these:
(I think I've mentioned it a few times already!)
(we have this in multiple sizes - love it)
